Trivia / South Park S 7 E 8 South Park Is Gay

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren't fond of this episode looking back. This was because it introduced the "Crab People" when they ran out of ideas to successfully continue the episode (after scrapping its initial subplot), which made them reluctantly go with "Crab People" and found it to be one of their worst ideas for the show.
  • Permanent Placeholder: The Crab People were originally created under the guise that they would be able to come up with something better. They couldn't, so they had to use Crab People. Nowadays, the Crab People have become the butt of many jokes in the writers' room, specifically aimed towards this trope.
"We'll literally say to one another 'Guys, can we not go all Crab People on this one?'"
  • What Could Have Been: Early loglines for the episode had Mr. Garrison and the other town gays deciding to "step things up a notch" and compete with the metrosexuals. This plotline was dropped in favor of the one with the Crab People.
  • Write What You Know: Mr. Garrison's frustration over straight men co-opting all of the worst stereotypes of homosexuality came from a conversation Matt and Trey had with Team America: World Police producer Scott Ruden, who himself is gay and hated that Queer Eye For The Straight Guy was reenforcing gay stereotypes that homosexuals were so desperate to discourage.
