Ascended Fanon: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse gave the SSU the designation Earth-688, based on the Marvel Database wiki's unofficial placeholder designation of Earth-TRN688. Given that Earth-688 already exists, it was renamed Earth-688B by the Marvel Database.
Ashcan Copy: Part of the reason why this franchise exists is so Sony can make additional money off of the Spider-Man license without relying exclusively on Marvel Studios making movies for them, in the process ensuring to investors that they are able to make installments that can succeed on their own merit. However, it's a rare example in which both sides are still willing to cooperate on a different level (IE: within the Marvel Cinematic Universe) instead of Sony simply trying to keep the IP away from Marvel, and the Spider-Man films in the MCU (Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home) were all well-received and highly profitable.
Flip-Flop of God: Whether or not Spider-Man himself would be involved down the line. Since the announcement, development and marketing for Venom, fans obviously pressed the question whether or not the film was canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Sony and Amy Pascal would tell you "Of course!", Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios would say "Don't bet on it". While Tom Holland has already said he'll continue to portray Spidey as he's wanted. Many fans are hopeful that Spider-Man will appear in Venom: Let There Be Carnage due to talks of a Spider-Man/Venom crossover movie stated to be very likely. After the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony made their intentions of using Spider-Man in this setting clear, which remained unchanged after the partership between Sony and Marvel Studios was renewed. Hilariously, Kevin Feige was the one to confirm that Spider-Man would appear in the SSU alongside the MCU. Ultimately, however, Sony clarified in 2021, after some contradictory statements, that the two franchises are still officially separate entities, a statement that was confirmed again at The Stinger of Let There Be Carnage.
God Does Not Own This World: The stories in this setting that go to the MCU are not produced by Kevin Feige.
Release Date Change: Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius had their release dates pushed to 2021 and 2022, respectively, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This led to Let There Be Carnage releasing prior to Morbius, despite having been filmed after and being originally set for a later release.
