- B-Team Sequel: The game is developed by Sega Hardlight (the same developers behind Sonic Jump, Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle) as opposed to Sonic Team.
- Creator's Favorite: Studio Head Dan Rossati says that Sega HARDlight is home to a lot of Cream the Rabbit fans, which is why she had the "Unicorn Cream" alternate costume in Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. When they made Dream Team, they wanted to have the story shaped around and focus on Cream's involvement, which they were pleased to hear the favorable reception from fans when she and Rouge were revealed as playable characters.
- Development Gag: Amy, Cream, and Rouge make up an informal team as the distaff counterparts to the traditional Team Sonic roster of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles; this team composition was actually the original roster for Team Rose in its conceptual phase.
- Inspiration for the Work: According to one of the developers, Super Mario Sunshine and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater were referenced as inspirations for the game.
- Meme Acknowledgement: In an interview before the game released, Sega HARDlight studio head Dan Rossati acknowledges Cream's Memetic Badass status within the Sonic fandom saying her inclusion may have been "overthought."Rossati: Cream and Cheese’s involvement may have been overthought as we all joke in the fandom about how they’re the most powerful force in Sonic’s Universe. I say joke, but if you know, you know.
- No Dub for You: The game has only an English voice track despite releasing in other languages.
- No Port For You: According to a post by a Sega HARDlight ambassador◊, the game is unlikely to be released on other mobile platforms (ie. Android) due to exclusivity agreements. They would state that it wouldn't prevent the game from being released on console/PC, but no plans of that kind have been announced at this time.SonicWindBlue: The Apple Arcade release only prevents the release on other mobile platforms (e.g Android) due to exclusivity agreements. This does not mean that the game can't get a release on console / PC. The news is not correct, by the way. #SonicDreamTeam
- Promoted Fanboy: GaMetal is a big fan of the franchise, having done numerous metal-rock covers for various songs throughout Sonic's history. He got the chance to work with Tee Lopes for the announcement track of Dream Team, which he proclaimed was a huge honor.
- Similarly Named Works:
- This game happens to share the same subtitle with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, which is rather humorous given the historical rivalry between Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros..
- Having "Sonic" and "dream" in the title apparently caused the YouTube algorithm to think this game was Sonic Dreams Collection, a satirical fangame that's notorious for its shocking and hilariously disturbing content.
