• Creator Breakdown: When originally envisioning the plot, Lois Lowry's original plans was to focus on Gabe's search for his mother. This changed however when the more she wrote, the more she began to empathize with Gabe's mother, due to her own feelings of missing her deceased son. Gabe's mother Claire ended up becoming the primary view point character.
