Trivia / Smurfs: The Lost Village

Go To

  • Actor Allusion: In the Croatian dub, Gargamel was voiced by Mladen Vasary. The thing is that Mladen Vasary also lent his voice to Brainy Smurf in the very first Croatian dub of the original animated series, so when Gargamel pretends to be a Smurf by pitching up his voice and going "Oh no!", he's literally got the voice of original Croatian Brainy Smurf coming out of his mouth (funnily enough, Brainy Smurf himself has a different actor in this movie).
  • Box Office Bomb: This film earned tepid reviews from critics, and although it has done quite well overseas, it has failed to make any traction in America. In the United States, it opened alongside Going in Style and The Case for Christ and was projected to gross around $16–20 million in the opening weekend from 3,602 theaters. It ended up opening to $13.2 million, marking the lowest debut of the Smurfs franchise and finishing 3rd at the box office.
  • First Appearance: Of the female Smurfs, who would later appear in later media, including the 2021 animated series.
  • Franchise Killer: This film turned out to be the last in the Sony Pictures Animation Smurf franchise, as it was the consequence of the Sony Pictures' franchise intending to be a lineup of three films to begin with. Although, it was shortly announced four months after the film's release that the umbrella franchise would be getting a new animated series which would happen four years after The Lost Village's' release. Likewise, SPA's rights to the Smurfs property expired by the time the 2021 series entered production, as Nickelodeon gained the licensing rights to the franchise in six countries (among them the US and Canada) the previous year, aired said series on its channel in the US, and would put another Smurfs movie in production with corporate sibling Paramountnote  in 2022.
  • Role Reprise: Frank Welker voices Azrael, similar to the hybrid movies. He is the only actor who worked on both this and the hybrid ones.
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise: The Smurf Girls are kept hidden by the packaging of the Jakks figures, but that isn't the case with other figures, like the McDonald's ones.
  • Those Two Actors: Ellie Kemper and Ariel Winter, SmurfBlossom and SmurfLily's voices actresses, also voice Crackle and Sofia on Sofia the First.
  • What Could Have Been: Although not explicitly confirmed, it appears that Jokey Smurf was planned to have a bigger role, as he is seen on many of the pre-production poster. In the actual film, Jokey only appears in three scenes. If this is not a case of what could have been, then it is a case of Advertised Extra.
  • Word of God: A director's blog was created on Tumblr where the director gave a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the movie prior to its release.
  • Working Title: During pre-production, the film was known as "Get Smurfy".
