Trivia / Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Jennifer O'Dell dislikes the way Veronica was portrayed in the pilot, to the point that she preferred to ignore the existence of the pilot and skip straight to the second episode of the first season.
  • Fake Nationality: Let's seeā€¦ Marguerite (French) is played by an Australian actress, Roxton and Challenger (both British) are played by Australian and New Zealand actors. Malone (American) is played by a Canadian.
  • The Other Darrin: William deVry played Malone in the pilot (David Orth assumed the role in the series).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, Jennifer O'Dell was rejected because the filmmakers thought she was too contemporary for the role of Veronica. Weeks later, she was called to perform a second test because the filmmakers had not yet found an ideal actress for the role and wanted to test her again. They eventually decided to cast her in the role.
    • Originally, Veronica would be portrayed as a naive woman, something that can be seen in the pilot. Jennifer O'Dell convinced the writers to change the characterization during the first season, arguing that a woman who had lived her entire life alone in the middle of nowhere would be stronger and wiser.
    • Season 4 had already been planned when funding fell through, with a true ending to the series. Summerlee and Veronica's mother would be revealed to be alive. Malone and Veronica would have been reunited, Veronica would find her mother, and take over as the spiritual leader of the pleateau, a spiritual artifact called the Trion would be found by Veronica and she would battle the forces of the line of Modred. Marguerite would be revealed to be a descendant of Morrighan, and with Roxton's help, choose good and help Veronica. Challenger's invention would send himself, Marguerite, and Roxton back to London while Malone (Wears a Loincloth) and Veronica lived back on the plateau.
  • Other notable pitches for Season 4 included:
    • Victor Frankenstein chasing his monster around the world, with the two ultimately ending up on the Plateau. The creature would have been revealed as the more sympathetic of the two, whilst his creator being depicted as the episode's clear antagonist.
    • An ageing Sherlock Holmes arriving at the Plateau to locate and defeat Professor Moriarty once and for all.
    • A group of guest characters including Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein who would be revealed as old friends of Challenger.
