  • Creator Breakdown: Issue #18, the last issue of the first volume, the one done by Jack Kirby, was supposed to be a transition into making the Silver Surfer more angry and less pacifistic. Since Kirby was on the verge of leaving Marvel at the time and was pretty angry at Lee himself, he was able to put in a lot of his anger through the Surfer:
Silver Surfer: From this time forth, the Silver Surfer will battle them on their own savage terms! Let mankind beware! From this time forth...The Surfer will be the deadliest one of all!
  • Creator's Favorite: For Steve Englehart, there was Mantis. He created her for his Avengers run and then brought her over to Silver Surfer and even to books he didn't create for Marvel. It has also been argued Silver Surfer himself was one of Stan's favorites alongside Spider-Man, as he kept finding ways to return to the character and cited the 1988 comic Silver Surfer: Parable (by Stan Lee and Moebius) as his favorite work.
  • Development Hell: Aside from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, he has yet to headline his own movie.
    • In 1989, Erik Fleming, then a film student from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and Robert Letterman approached Marvel Studios and Constantin Film's producer Bernd Eichinger to ask permission to make a short film as a proof of concept for the use of CGI to bring the main character to life. Supervised by Steven Robiner, this 5-minute short film was completed in 1991 and premiered at First Look USC Film Festival on September 21, 1993 and led to significant interest from major studios in a feature-length film. Andrew Kevin Walker wrote a script for 20th Century Fox in 2000, but nothing ever came of it.
    • Following Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fox hired J. Michael Straczynski to write the screenplay for a spin-off film. Straczynski said that his script was a sequel, but it would also delve into the Surfer's origins. In mid-2009, he expressed doubts that the film would be produced. In this continuity, the Surfer's origins and powers are similar to those of his comic-book incarnation, in that he agrees to become Galactus's herald in return for the safety of his home world and the woman he loved. Also, if the Surfer is separated from his board, he becomes weaker; in addition, the board also serves as a beacon for Galactus.
    • In February 2018, it was reported that Fox was developing a Silver Surfer film with Brian K. Vaughan working on the script. In March 2019, Disney acquired Fox, meaning that the film rights to the Silver Surfer are now with Marvel Studios. The last anything has been heard of the film was in September 2019, when The GWW reported that Marvel Studios were now developing the solo movie.
  • What Could Have Been: A Japanese tokusatsu incarnation of Silver Surfer in the vein of Spider-Man (Japan) was considered by Toei Company to follow Battle Fever J in 1980 but was dropped in favor of continuing the Super Sentai franchise with Denshi Sentai Denziman.
