Trivia / Sigur Rós

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Von. The lyrics to "Ágætis byrjun" are about the band's reaction, and "Hjartað hamast"'s final chorus also mentions how it didn't turn out the way they wanted.
  • Creator Couple: Jónsi & Alex with visual artist and musician Alex Somers, who was his partner from the mid-2000s to 2019. The collaborations between Somers and Sigur Rós started with the artwork for Takk. He has since worked closely with the band, even sharing credits on his score for Black Mirror: Hang the DJ.
  • One-Hit Wonder: They only have one Top 40 hit in the UK. It is, unsurprisingly, "Hoppípolla".
  • The Pete Best: Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson, who left after recording Ágætis byrjun. Sigur Rós didn't become well known outside of Iceland until after he left, and only hit it big after the next two albums.
  • He Also Did:
    • The score to Lords of Chaos. Yes, people. They scored a Black Metal thriller.
      • The film's director Jonas Åkerlund, who also did their "Óveður" music video, even admitted he temped the movie with SR's music, particularly bits off Von and Valtari.
    • Jónsi's solo work has its own page.
    • Georg and Orri:
      • Collaborated with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson for the soundtrack album Circe: Music Composed for the Show of Shows.
      • Did generative music for Tate Modern's States of Matter exhibit in 2016.
  • What Could Have Been: Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust was originally going to be entirely in English until the band decided Icelandic was more natural for them, and the songs were either translated or rewritten. One English song ("All Alright") did make it onto the final album, though.
