• Dawson Casting: Candy's age is never made clear, but it's implied she's somewhere in her teenage years. Her actress Mare Winningham was 28 at the time of filming.
• Screwed by the Network: The film was dumped into 300 theaters in the American Southwest with virtually no advertising by the then-financially struggling Cannon Group. To add insult to injury, another distributor attempted to buy the distribution rights to the film only to discover that Cannon had already released it and pulled out of the deal. Despite getting good reviews from critics such as Roger Ebert, Shy People flopped massively, earning a measly $769,119 at the box office.
• What Could Have Been: Tangerine Dream was originally to have composed nearly 80 minutes' worth of music for the film, but this proved exhausting for the band due to their extremely tight scheduling, and consequently very little of their music actually ended up in the film.
