- Creator Backlash: Writer David Nobbs thought the series was awful, which was especially seen as a shame to him as he thought the concept could have been very good. He also thought that having the characters be trapped together by something literal (in this case, water), was too easy compared to how a series like Steptoe and Son had the characters trapped together as they needed each other and regretted having such a small and unlikeable main cast.
- Friendship on the Set: Timothy Bateson and Tony Selby had nothing in common but (unlike their characters) were best of friends on set. In a newspaper interview, Selby remarked:We're great friends. Just fancy having to go out on the lighthouse and hate.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: While the master tapes for all six episodes were wiped, domestic audio recordings of "The Great Relief" and "Two's a Crowd" have been recovered, albeit unable to be listened to by the public.
- Missing Episode: All six episodes have been wiped and are no longer in the ITV archives.
- Working Title: The Lighthouse Keepers.
