Trivia / Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

  • Actor Allusion:
  • Content Leak: The existence of the North American and European localizations of Redux was prematurely revealed as a result of a few pages being published onto Atlus USA's website by accident. The same leak also revealed localizations of Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth and Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology.
  • No Dub for You: Atlus has confirmed that the western release of Redux will only have a Japanese dub; a rarity in the SMT franchise.
  • No Export for You: The game was never released in PAL territories, although nothing stops you from just importing a copy and playing it on an EU-region DS. Europe had better luck with the Redux rerelease.
  • Translation Correction: While not the main intent, making the PC an American solves the issue of being an elite soldier from a country not known in recent years for fielding elite troops.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A production document included in the Megaten Maniax anniversary book reveals that Minotaur, Asterius, Asmodeus, Aeshma, and Ashur were intended to be bosses for the original version of Strange Journey, The first four were most likely Refitted for Sequel, given the prominence of Minotaur and Asmodeus as major bosses in IV.
    • A scrapped feature from Redux was the Sub App for New Game Plus called "New MegaTen" having actual use. The original just had it as a joke where nothing actually happens when the player uses it, but there were plans in Redux to flesh it out as a roguelike procedurally generated dungeon minigame that players could use to play around in and do battles. It got cut for budget reasons.
  • Working Title: In production, the game was initially known as just Shin Megami Tensei IV.
