- Actor Allusion: In the Funimation dub, Shana is voiced by Cherami Leigh, who voiced another Tsundere literal Fiery Redhead with a sword in Kaze no Stigma.
- Children Voicing Children: Aiden Drummond was the initial voice for Sorath.
- Dueling Shows: With Kaze no Stigma, which eventually fell short, not only due to its author's death. Likely as an Actor Allusion, Shana's voice for the Funimation dubbed material is Cherami Leigh, who voices Stigma's Ayano, another redheaded, fire wielding, sword wielding Tsundere.
- Fountain of Expies: Shana's popularity inspired many other characters in Japanese light novels over the years, creating a whole host of short, flat-chested, romantically abusive tsunderes. Several of them, like Taiga, Louise and Aria, went to be voiced by Rie Kugimiya too in their respective anime adaptations, occasionally with an Actor Allusion thrown in (such as Shana's Catchphrase "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!").
- Genre Popularizer: Shakugan no Shana was one of the first Light Novels to receive an official English-language localization. Despite Viz Media only translating the first two volumes and the rest of the series still being unavailable in North America, its popularity as such broke the dam for an explosion of them getting exported to Western markets in the late 2000s and 2010s, where previously only anime and maybe manga adaptations of light novels were available outside of Japan.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes:
- While Viz Media was able to license an English translation of the original novels in the late 2000s, they only ever released the first two volumes, which have long since gone out of print.
- Funimation's release of season 1 does not include the OVA that was available on the 2009 Geneon box set.
- No Export for You: Viz Media briefly held the English license for the light novels, but they only ever translated the first two volumes in 2007; the rest of the novels have yet to be made available outside of Japan.
- The Other Darrin:
- The entire English voice cast was replaced for season 2 and beyond with Dallas-based voice actors, since Funimation chose not to have the series recorded in Vancouver due to a two-year long delay resulting from the Geneon/Universal merger red tape. For example, Yuji Sakai and Shana, respectively voiced in the original dub by Kristian Ayre and Tabitha St. Germain, are now voiced by Josh Grelle and Cherami Leigh.
- Even the Japanese cast was subject to this. In the Drama CD that was released in 2004, Shana was voiced by Yui Horie, Yuji Sakai by Masakazu Morita, Alastor by Akio Ōtsuka, Kazumi Yoshida by Akemi Sato, Chigusa Sakai by Yuko Minaguchi, Friagne by Masaya Matsukaze, Nina by Masumi Asanonote , and Hayato Ike by Takayuki Sasada.
- Real-Life Relative:
- Ike and Keisaku's Japanese voice actors are brothers.
- In the first season's English dub, Alastor is voiced by Paul Dobson. His younger brother, Michael Dobson, voices Dantalion.
- Also from the first season, Aiden Drummond, voice of Sorath is the son of Merihim/Shiro’s voice actor Brian Drummond.
- Studio Hop:
- The first 16 light novels were originally published by Kadokawa's MediaWorks division from November 2002 to November 2007. In April 2008, MediaWorks merged with ASCII Corporation to become ASCII MediaWorks and Shakugan no Shana stayed there until the 22nd and final light novel was published in October 2011.
- The anime's distribution rights in Japan are currently owned by NBCUniversal due to their purchase of Geneon from Dentsu in 2008.
- The North American releases were initially handled by Geneon Entertainment USA before switching to Funimation.
