- Creator Backlash: John Ford was reportedly unhappy with Anne Bancroft's performance, calling her "the mistress of monotone".
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: One of the more obscure John Ford films, it was only ever released on LaserDisc in the 90s and has only resurfaced since via the rare TV broadcast. Reportedly, Warner Bros. is doing a worldwide search for an extended version of the film, which is keeping back a future home video release.
- The Other Marty: Patricia Neal was originally cast as Dr. Cartwright, but Anne Bancroft replaced her when Neal suffered a stroke during filming.
- What Could Have Been: For the role of Dr. Cartwright, John Ford considered both Katharine Hepburn (who had become famous for portraying roles similar to Dr. Cartwright; she ultimately turned down the role) and Jennifer Jones, and Rosalind Russell lobbied for the part, but eventually Patricia Neal was cast. However, after three days of filming, Neal had a stroke, and as mentioned above in The Other Marty, Anne Bancroft took over the role.
- Working Title: Chinese Women.
