Trivia / SegaSonic the Hedgehog

Go To

  • Dummied Out:
    • Sprites of Robotnik as he appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) are buried in the game's code, as well as an English translation of the game's dialogue, suggesting plans for localized western release that, sadly, never came to be.
    • In addition, there are unused sprites for an Eggman boss battle, suggesting that he was originally going to be the final boss, but ends up scrapped in the final game due to time constraints.
  • First Appearance: Of Mighty and Ray.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Besides not being released in the US, the game has never seen a rerelease in any form, and is only playable through bootlegs. It was planned to be included in Sonic Gems Collection, but issues with emulating the game's sensitive trackball controllers put the kibosh on that.
  • No Export for You: Sorta, the game did see a release in the San Francisco Bay Area, but completely untranslated, and it never really saw much of a release after that.
  • No Port For You: This is of the few titles in the franchise to never get ported onto any system. This is largely due to its trackball control scheme, which was deemed to be too difficult to emulate on consoles.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • SegaSonic was initially planned to be a part of Sonic Gems Collection, but was scrapped after the team faced many difficulties emulating the game's trackball controls.
    • Unused English text and Dummied Out sprites of Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM)'s Dr. Robotnik imply there were plans for a US release that never materialized.
