Trivia / Scrooge (1951)

Go To

  • Ability over Appearance: Although Glyn Dearman was thought to be too tall to play Tiny Tim, he captures the Cheerful Child persona so much that most don't mind.
  • Acting for Two:
    • Mervyn Johns plays Bob Cratchit, and doubles up playing one of the wandering spirits during Marley's visit.
    • Richard Pearson plays Miss Flora's suitor at Fred's Christmas party, and a board member in the scene when Scrooge and Marley take over the firm.
    • Teresa Derrington played Fred's maid and also dubbed the voice for one of Bob's children.
  • Completely Different Title: The opening credits show that Scrooge was the original title in Britain, but it was changed to A Christmas Carol in America to match the novel.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Patrick Macnee maintained that the film was a personal favourite among his filmography.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The exterior of Scrooge and Marley's office is used in the murder of Annie Chapman in A Study in Terror.
  • Hostility on the Set: Teresa Derrington when asked about Alastair Sim, described him as being very condescending, asking mockingly if this was only her first film, and not looking at her when she needed an eyeline for her closeups.
  • Playing Against Type: Alastair Sim was mostly a comic actor, which comes through a bit in his approach to Scrooge.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: Teresa Derrington had short hair at the time, requiring a cap to hide it.
  • Recycled Set: The street in the scene where Scrooge meets the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, is the same street corner as earlier in the film when Scrooge is going home after having had his dinner and encounters the blind man with his dog. Fences have been added to make it appear to be a dead end street.
  • Uncredited Role: Teresa Derrington went uncredited for her small role as Fred's housekeeper towards the end.
  • Underage Casting: Jacob Marley is 53 when he died. Michael Hordern was only 39 during filming.
