Trivia / Scooby-Doo Direct-to-Video Film Series

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: Originally in the early days of Cartoon Network this series was very well treated. As ironically the decision to begin it was born from Cartoon Network's original series taking up much of the pipeline when Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros merged. In the 2000s, it was common for Cartoon Network to air these movies regularly, as despite some problems behind the scenes, the heads of CN and WBA had a good relationship at the time. However this was not to last forever...
    • Not all of these movies were adored however. Zombie Island was barely aired for a while, presumably due to its Darker and Edgier nature; Goblin King rarely aired for unknown reasons.
    • While Cartoon Network has since completely ceased airing them, Boomerang airs them constantly, with the only movies on the channel being a Scooby-Doo film and a Tom and Jerry film.
  • Content Leak: An entire movie, entitled Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too! was leaked online on March 3, 2023. This led some media outlets to speculate whether or not this movie was cancelled or written off as a part of Warner Bros. Discovery's post-merger cost-cutting measures. It was ultimately released on September 23, 2023.
  • Screwed by the Network: The frequency of these movies airing on Cartoon Network decreased after Samurai Sword, for various reasons. Some of which is blamed on the WB vs Turner divide. All WB's DTV work had no Turner involvement as such CN could take or leave choosing to air any of the Scooby, Tom and Jerry or DC movies. Also among which is that Cartoon Network had Mystery Incorporated airing with a different approach that alienated audiences from the franchise due to its Darker and Edgier themes and Continuity Lockout. Even if CN didn't air them always in routine time they did utilize them as filler for several more years before pretty much abandoning them to Boomerang for what might be for good.
  • Trolling Creator: The '10s-era movies sure seem to like picking on Mystery Incorporated fans and creating confusion on whether or not they take place in the same continuity. For example, the Mystery Machine's license plate in Frankencreepy says it is from Crystal Cove... only for the van to be blown up a few minutes later. Stage Fright used the whole romantic plot as a backstory in a way that contradicts MI and then ditches it back to the status quo of will they or won't they. etc. Some have interpreted this is a sign that these new movies are the new universe promised in the finale of MI because of shared creators. Others have interpreted this as writers using standard HB continuity flux to poke fun of what they didn't like about MI. The main producer behind MI Mitch Watson should be noted though as not having worked on any Scooby media since MI ended.
  • What Could Have Been: Another movie featuring the Hex Girls called Scooby-Doo & the Haunted High-Rise was deep into development in 2022, with all the dialogue recorded and original songs produced, and animation about to begin, but it was killed by Warner Bros for tax write-off purposes.
