- California Doubling: Interestingly, despite being set in California, parts of the movie were filmed in and around various areas of Queensland, Australia; with some of the locations being Brisbane and Ipswich. Guess that would explain the below-mentioned Australian actor and actresses pretending to be Americans.
- Interestingly enough, Queensland, along with much of Australia, is also extremely geologically stable, with almost no perceptible earthquakes occurring in any of the filming locations within living memory, and even small earthquakes only detectable by seismography being multiple years apart - meaning that basically none of the extras for many of the scenes had likely ever experienced an earthquake of any noticeable size in their lives.
- Dawson Casting: 18ish year old Blake was played by 29 year old Alexandra Daddario.
- Fake Mixed Race: Caucasian Alexandra Daddario plays the daughter of Dwayne Johnson (mixed Samoan/Black ancestry) and Carla Gugino (Caucasian). Her onscreen sister Arabella Morton is Caucasian too.
- Fake Nationality: Welsh Ioan Gruffudd and Australian Kylie Minogue play American siblings; the English brothers Blake rescues are played by Australian Hugo Johnstone-Burt and Irishman Art Parkinson; and the late Mallory Gaines, who only appears in flashbacks, is played by Australian actress Arabella Morton.
