• First Appearance: Kermit the Frog was first introduced in this series.
• Missing Episode: Most of them, because the show was broadcast live. Several segments still survive through kinescopes and are shown in anniversary specials and documentaries. Notably, only one kinescoped segment ("That Old Black Magic") features the title character Sam.
• Screwed by the Network: In those early days of television, the show's channel WRC was very antsy about it, and kept moving it around the schedule. They even cancelled it a couple times, only to renege in the face of massive fan outrage.
