Trivia / Salvador Dalí

  • He Also Did:
    • Of all things, designed the label for Chupa Chups lollipops.
    • He also collaborated with Italian couturier Elsa Schiaparelli in her designs like the shoe hats and lobster details in her dresses.

  • What Could Have Been:
    • Dalí actually did a collaboration project with Walt Disney, of all people, on a short subject that was meant for Fantasia, but was ultimately scrapped. Destino was eventually completed in 2003 and was finally released on DVD as an extra on the 2010 holiday release of Fantasia 2000. When Destino originally fell through, Walt and Dali would briefly collaborate again for a possible Don Quixote film, only for the project to never get that far.
    • He once asked a young Lorraine Bracco if he could paint her in the nude, but she refused, just thinking he was some creepy old man.
    • Came pretty close to making a film with the Marx Brothers; some stills from the storyboard include Harpo playing a harp on fire on the top of a cliff while Chico negotiates a maze of bicyclists a la Frogger.
    • He was supposed to be cast as the evil Emperor by Alejandro Jodorowsky in a proposed film adaptation of Dune. Dalí only agreed to appear in the film if he was paid a fee of $100,000 per hour of screentime, to which Jodorwsky responded by giving him exactly that much screentime in the planned film, the rest being filled in by an animatronic fascimile. Even if the film was made, Dalí wouldn't have ended up in it anyway; partway through production he was kicked off due to statements he made supporting Spanish quasi-fascist dictator Francisco Franco.
