Trivia / SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs

Go To

  • Backed by the Pentagon: One of the first franchises to have this and it was one of the selling points of the first game.
  • Creator Killer / Franchise Killer:
    • SOCOM 4's overall lackluster sales resulted in Zipper Interactive's closing at the end of March 2012. Despite news of SOCOM 4's continued support, any other titles in the immediate future look grim.
    • Some have argued SOCOM Confrontation was the actual culprit responsible for the death of the franchise, as it was absolutely plagued with problems on launch (latency, disconnects, freezing, lag, server errors, glitches, timeouts, etc) which took over a month to fix, received very mixed reviews from critics (having the lowest Metascore in the series) and was lacking in content compared to previous games in the series, all of which alienated many SOCOM fans to the point where they were unwilling to give SOCOM 4 a chance.
  • Dueling Games: With Conflict: Desert Storm series, as both the SOCOM and Conflict series are third person tactical shooters with squad controls and commands. The Conflict series isn't Sony-exclusive, though.
  • Recursive Import: SOCOM 4 (SOCOM: Special Forces in PAL areas) with the two main characters aside from the PC from special forces of the country of where the game is from. You get the Navy Seals if you got the game from the US/Canada/Southeast Asia/Japan. If from the Netherlands, you have the two guys from the KCT. If from Britain, they're from the British SAS. If from France, they're from the 1MIPR or 1er RPIMa in French. A total of 12 special forces unit are done for the game.
  • Screwed by the Network: Right after SOCOM 4 came out, the infamous PSN hack of 2011 happened, prompting Sony to take the whole network offline for 23 days. Even after PSN went back online, the game never recovered.
