Trivia / SINoALICE

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Yuko Sanpei voices both Pinocchio and his staff, while all Three Little Pigs are voiced by Aoi Yūki.
  • Banned in China: Potential players in Belgium will miss out on the Global version of SINoALICE due to games with Loot Box mechanics being banned by law there. Strangely, the Netherlandsnote is listed as one of the 139 countries where the game will be released despite having similar laws.
  • Content Leak: During the 27 June 2021 SINoALICE Times livestream, eagle-eyed viewers spotted the then-unreleased Red Riding Hood/International and Alice/Yukata for the End of Summer Shadow event. Whether this was accidental or on purpose is unknown since both classes were announced to get a simultaneous release in the JP and Global servers anyway.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
    • Pinocchio is voiced by Yuko Sanpei. As of the Act of Hatred, one can also consider Maaya Uchida as Gretel/Hansel as this.
    • Sanctuary of Nursery Rhymes introduces Natsumi Fujiwara as Aladdin/-Child-.
    • Ui Hinagata, best known for her role as Rose in NieR: Automata's anime adaptation and the YoRHa stage plays, voices Noya in SINoALICE: The Absolute Last Story.
  • Development Hell:
    • The Global release sure had it rough - 2 days before its original release by Nexon, the team in charge of the Global server announced on Facebook that the game was indefinitely delayed due to translation issues. 7-8 months later, Pokelabo themselves announced that they'll take over development of the Global server and release it on July 1, 2020, to the rejoicing of players who wanted to start off in Global.
    • The original Japanese release was supposed to be March 2017. After some delays, it was eventually released on June 6 2017... but server problems led to a week's worth of maintenance before people could actually play the game.
    • The Simplified Chinese version of the game is still in its pre-registration stage since its announcement in June 2020, and given the game's content as well as emphasis on PvP, it's highly unlikely that SINoALICE will see the light in its normal form since the restrictions in gaming in China had been announced in September 2021.
    • The Records of Suspision manga hasn't had any further announcements since its initial announcement during the Japanese 4th Anniversary livestream. Whether the project was silently cancelled or still under development is unknown, since Shirow Miwa is also currently working on Fate:Lost Einherjar and Soul Hackers 2 as well.
  • Follow the Leader: The mobile games for The Saga of Tanya the Evil and Assault Lily have a similar gameplay and combat system to SINoALICE. In the case of Assault Lily: Last Bullet, it's justified since it's also developed by PokeLabo.
  • No Dub for You: The audio is only in Japanese, which is even more jarring when some of the character's lines aren't even subtitled.
  • No Export for You: Countries such as Iran, Haiti, Bangladesh, Sudan, Cuba and Lichtenstein will not have the game available to them on iOS, being Google Play-exclusive countries.
    • Despite being marketed as 'World Events', the World/International classes and the Lullaby of Reincarnation event are not available in the Taiwanese server, presumably due to Komoe Games handling distribution instead of PokeLabo themselves. The Taiwanese server eventually got the International Classes in May 2021.
    • The Parrah-Noya Bar, where players place their bets during the GranColosseum, and Nightmare expeditions, were not available in the Global server.
    • So far there are no plans for SINoALICE: The Absolute Last Story to screen overseas, with only select cinemas in Japan getting them.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content:
    • In the Global server, Mithra's Dub Name Change to Cecilia the Crimson Banisher was taken from a naming contest on twitter.
    • The 3rd Anniversary commemorative weapons in the Japanese server had their names and weapon stories submitted by fans for a competition.
    • As part of the "Producer for a Day" reward for winning the 1st World GranColosseum, LiLLion! got to produce the Dream Festival of Nightmares event, being allowed to input their ideas into said event. Representatives of them even appeared in the event story.
  • The Other Darrin: Red Riding Hood was initially voiced by Ayaka Imamura. Following her retirement due to illness in 2018, she has been replaced by Rika Tachibana.
  • The Pete Best: With Rika Tachibana's portrayal of Red Riding Hood now more well known and Rika herself becoming more popular in the voice acting community as a whole, it's very hard-pressed to find players who still remember Ayaka Imamura's portrayal of her. In fact, most Global players have no idea who Ayaka is as her voice lines in the first New Year's event have been removed.
  • Playing Against Type: Mayu Sagara is usually cast as cute characters such as Kasumi Nakasu. While Little Match Girl is just as cute-sounding, her Pyromaniac Split Personality is something else altogether.
  • Production Posse: This is the 4th Yoko Taro game where the music is composed by Keiichi Okabe and company at MONACA.
  • Sleeper Hit: For the developers PokeLabo. Their previous games all never lasted beyond 1 year in service and were taken down due to not earning enough revenue to maintain the servers. While most players assumed that SINoALICE would meet the same fate by virtue of being a PokeLabo game, it eventually became the first PokeLabo game to last more than 1 year in service and be published in other countries, with their Taiwanese server still going on strong, a relatively successful Global server and plans to introduce the game in Mainland China, eventually going for a goal to have a Worldwide GranColosseum featuring players from every server in 2021. In fact, mention PokeLabo and chances are this game is the first to come to mind from them.
  • Staff-Created Fan Work: The Absolute Last Story was actually created in secret by Aoki Tact when SINoALICE was still in service for 4 years. It was only later that it got official billing by Square Enix.
  • Trolling Creator:
    • As is per tradition, Yoko Taro. Just look at every interview he did for the Global server for instance.
    • During a conference in South Korea, Taro revealed his plan for all 3 released servers to get different endings. So imagine the uproar from the Taiwanese and Global players when, due to both ending at the exact same point in the story, the already Butt-Monkey Global players ended up with a similar ending as the Taiwanese players, possibly as one final troll.
    • Not even the Japanese players are safe from being trolled; during the End of Service Roundtable Talk Event, Aoki Tact announced that the audience would be treated to a special PV that he made for the event. The PV ended up lasting for a whopping 70 minutes, and it's only after it ended that the roundtable event was revealed to be a secret premiere of the SINoALICE: The Absolute Last Story fan movie. Needless to say, the Famitsu reporter on-site was furious about being tricked like that.
  • Troubled Production: Due to working complications from the COVID-19 Pandemic, three medal eventsnote, several armour events and Chapter 5 of the Fusion Arc went unvoiced. Pokelabo has since announced in their August 2020 Live SINoALICE that the medal events will return in September - November with full voice acting.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Alice's Sorcerer class was originally for the game's first Summer event, but was eventually reworked into her default Sorcerer appearance.
    • According to Shogo Maeda's twitter, Alice initially had long hair while Cinderella had fairer skin. Additionally, Hamelin was supposed to be part of the starting lineup before being shelved until October 2019.
    • Little Mermaid and Dorothy were also initially part of the starting lineup before development troubles caused them to debut a bit later. Hints of Little Mermaid's initial inclusion in the Act of Impulse can be heard in said arc's Chapter 5.
    • Maeda's Twitter revealed that there were more Characters planned for the game, but because the newer characters (especially Hamelin and Little Match Girl) had fewer standard classes than everyone else and the developers wanted at least the Alternative class for everyone, priority went to getting the recent Characters more classes than adding new ones. With the end of service, everyone from The Three Little Pigs onwards did not get a standard Mage class and a complete Divine Spirit Class set, the same batch plus Dorothy did not get the full Spirit Class set and Little Match Girl did not get her standard Breaker class.
    • The overall plot for SINoALICE, in particular the game being about fairytale characters fighting for a cause related to their stories, was initially the plot to the original NieR.
    • Speaking of NieR, the Dreams Under Missing Pages event was also supposed to include Kaine in the scenario, but budgetary reasons meant that Pokelabo could only get Koji Yusa and Mai Kadowaki to reprise their roles.
    • With the end of SINoALICE just announced, many possibilities such as Sanrio partners for Kaguya, Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs, potential future crossovers and event ideas will forever remain as ideas.
  • Uncredited Role: The voice actors for Parrah, Noya and the Nightmares are not credited in any form in game. Kent Itou was credited for briefly voicing Noya during the Summer Reverb, Busted Puppet summer event while Shogo Maeda at one point revealed who voiced Rikone and Lelai during the Of Foxes and Flowers event on Twitter, which may have been deleted since. In the The Absolute Last Story movie however, Parrah and Noya get credited voice actors in the form of Miho Amane and Ui Hinagata respectively.
