Trivia / Run with the Wind

• Actor-Shared Background: In the English dub, the African characters are voiced by African-American actors.
• Completely Different Title: The Japanese name is Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru, which means "the wind blows strongly." The novel does not have an official English translation and so originally had no official name. While the 2010 movie adaptation was promoted as Feel The Wind for international Japanese film festivals, the official English title, Run With The Wind, came about when the novel was adapted into the 2018 anime (simulcasted by Crunchyroll).
• Darkhorse Casting: The main and supporting characters were mostly cast with big names, veterans or rising stars. Takeo Ōtsuka and Hideaki Kabumoto stand out for being two fairly new voice actors at the time when they were cast as Kakeru and Musa.
• Dueling Works: The first cour of the anime aired at the same time as the anime adaptation of the light novel series Tsurune. Both are based on sports literature set at schools (Run With The Wind focuses on a running team, Tsurune on a kyūdō, or Japanese archery, club), include a Cast Full of Pretty Boys, and have protagonists who are experts in their fields but are reluctant to officially compete due to their Dark And Troubled Pasts. One key difference is that Run With The Wind focuses on a university-level sport whereas Tsurune focuses on a high school club.
• Fake Nationality: In the Japanese track of the anime, the African characters are naturally still played by Japanese voice actors, including Musa being voiced by Hideaki Kabumoto. However, the characters speak flawless unaccented Japanese and never use their mother languages on-screen, making the mismatched nationalities a non-issue.
• No Export for You: The novel only comes in one official foreign translation, which is in Chinese (titled as 强风吹拂). For everyone else in the world, the novel can only be bought in the original Japanese and from Japanese book stores/services. Fortunately for English readers, a complete Fan Translation was done by the Tumblr blog thefinalcinderella across two years from October 2019 to October 2021.
• Real-Life Relative: Real-life twins were cast as the Jo brothers in the two stage play adaptations. This contrasts the movie adaptation, which used unrelated actors.
• What Could Have Been: Supposedly Coach Tazaki was meant to speak more/play a bigger role in the anime adaptation, but his scenes were cut due to the members' lines taking up more time than anticipated.
