- Actor Allusion: "It Could Always Be Worse" is obviously a child-friendly take on Eric Idle's "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life".
- Box Office Bomb: Only made about $115,000 dollars against its $10 million budget.
- Digital Destruction: Some foreign home entertainment releases of the movie have an orangish tint applied, probably as a side effect of a faulty conversion.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: Kathleen Barr as Rudolph.
- Fake American: The British Eric Idle as the Brooklyn-accented Slyly.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The film and its sequel have been long out of print, both on VHS and DVD, with no plans for re-release for either. The sequel aired on ABC Family for a time until their rights lapsed in 2013. The fact that the films' producer, GoodTimes Entertainment, is bankrupt doesn't help matters.
- The DVD of the first film is still available in Australia, as it still sells in the Christmas season.
- The Other Marty: Scott McNeil had originally recorded lines for both Slyly and Leonard before being replaced by Eric Idle and Bob Newhart, respectively.
- Sequel in Another Medium: The book called Rudolph Saves the Sprites takes place after the movie.
- Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: A variant—in the DVD's description, Leonard is briefly indirectly mentioned in a sentence, but Slyly, who's a much more prominent character in the film, isn't mentioned at all.
- Vindicated by Cable: The movie did abysmally at cinemas but it became a Cult Classic due to its home release.
- What Could Have Been: Zoey was originally going to be Clarice from the Rankin-Bass special for the sake of consistent franchise storytelling, but GoodTimes Entertainment couldn't gain rights to the character, therefore forcing them to create a new character to be Rudolph's love interest.
