- Fake Irish: None of the three principal actors are Irish. They avoid slipping into Oireland territory though. James McAvoy goes for a general Greater Dublin Area accent. Romola Garai nails the upper class Dublin accent.
- Playing Against Type: Retroactively for James McAvoy who found himself playing a lot of Wide Eyed Idealists as his career went on. Here he's a foul-mouthed man who tries to get into fights.
- What Could Have Been: James McAvoy auditioned for Michael, but he did it with Stephen Robertson and immediately realised Robertson would be better for the part.
