The Book
  • Write Who You Know: Many of Marcinko's friends and foes are either named or given code names or aliases.
    • Stevie Wonder is Steve Hartman
    • Duck Foot Dewey is Thomas Capel. Interestingly enough, his real name was used as a tango in Task Force Blue, a elite Staff Sergeant who was part of a plane hijacking.
    • Trace Dahlgren is actually based on his wife. Yes, that Trace Dahlgren.
The Video Game
  • Creator Killer: The Licensed Game is this for Rebellion Derby, aka. Core Design.
  • Follow the Leader: The gameplay of the Licensed Game is basically identical to Rainbow Six: Vegas, only without the squad control element as Marcinko is entirely on his own.
  • Mid-Development Genre Shift: As envisioned by Zombie Studios, the game was originally a much more ambitious project whose gameplay would have been more akin to the likes of Ghost Recon Wildlands/Ghost Recon Breakpoint. As Zombie Studios' plans turned out to be far too ambitious to be realized, the game was instead shifted by Rebellion to a more typical 7th gen linear cover-based shooter.
  • Troubled Production: The game was announced in 2006 as a Zombie Studios project. After a two-year period of radio silence, it was eventually revealed Bethesda was unsatisfied with the way the game was going, and transferred development to Rebellion Developments, who basically rewrote the entire game. It was finally released in 2009.
  • What Could Have Been: When Zombie Studios was initially working on the game, it was supposed to feature a drop-in four-player cooperative and 24-player competitive multiplayer, with the latter featuring a dynamic map system. All of this was scrapped after Bethesda shifted development to Rebellion.
