Trivia / Rogue

Go To

The film:

  • Acclaimed Flop: The film was well received by critics (especially for a "giant crocodile" film), but grossed only $4.6 million on a $25 million budget.
  • Billing Displacement: Radha Mitchell receives top billing, but Michael Vartan is the main character and the one who ultimately kills the crocodile.
  • Dueling Movies: With Black Water and Primeval, which were all released the same year, based on true stories, and about crocodiles, although Primeval left the last detail out of its marketing. Both Rogue and Black Water are also based on incidents in Australia. The similarities between Rogue and Primeval would cause the release of Rogue to be delayed in the United States.
  • Life Imitates Art: During filming, the boat did at one point get stuck in the river while surrounded by crocodiles.
  • Playing Against Type: John Jarratt, the terrifying antagonist from Wolf Creek, here plays a grieving widower and nice guy.

The game:

  • Killer App: According to the BSD developers, the game was one of the biggest uses of cycles on Unix systems back in the '80s. Many users of modern Unix-like systems likely have one of its descendants, such as NetHack or Angband, installed.
  • No Export for You: Like a lot of later Commodore 64 games, the 1988 C64 version was only sold in Europe.

The book:

  • Write Who You Know: Lyn Miller-Lachmann has Asperger's and was lonely and miserable as an adolescent, but unlike Kiara, she didn't fight back against the bullies. She also became an unwitting drug mule after she got her driver's license.
