Trivia / Rodea the Sky Soldier

  • Creator Backlash: Yuji Naka himself implored that people play the Wii version, which is the only version he and his team had any involvement in. Unfortunately, the Wii version was intended to only be available as a bonus alongside first-print editions of the Wii U version... except, because the game sold poorly, you'd be hard pressed to find any copy of the Wii U version that doesn't come with the Wii version, as it doesn't appear as though a second print run even occurred.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: To NiGHTS into Dreams… and the the Adventure era 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games, with a main character who can fly (like in NiGHTS) traversing through linear platforming stages (like Sonic).
  • Creator Killer: The low sales of Rodea did this to Yuji Naka’s studio, Prope. Not only have they not made a game since, but according to Yuji Naka, the company became downsized to where it was solely him going into the office to do paperwork on the weekends.
  • Executive Meddling: The Wii version of the game was fully completed in 2011, but Kadokawa decided to delay it in order to make a 3DS version without the involvement or even knowledge of the original developers. During the development of the 3DS version, the Wii was succeeded by the Wii U, so Kadokawa then took their 3DS version and ported it to the Wii U.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The game was actually fully completed during the lifespan of the Wii, but publisher Kadokawa Games never seemed to get around to actually releasing the game. Eventually, the game's seemingly indefinite delay went long past the release of the Wii U, that they ported it to that system instead.
