  • Defictionalization: A real-life Rocket League RC arena set was released by Mattel, under their Hot Wheels brand, in Fall 2018.
  • Executive Meddling: The MacOS and Linux ports lost support in March 2020, meaning online play is now impossible between the platforms. The MacOS version being deprecated makes sense, as the game relied on nearly a decade-old version of OpenGL that has deprecated support in the newest version of MacOS Catalina, and many MacOS games have dropped support for the same reasons (even Steam itself has stated it will stop supporting the OS at the end of 2023). But the Linux port confused people, as both OpenGL and Vulkan are viable options on the OS (although, to be fair to Psyonix here, Unreal Engine 3 doesn't support the latter). The justification Psyonix gave was due to wanting to "adopt new technologies", which is a very vague answer that could mean anything from an engine upgrade onto Unreal Engine 4 (something which Epic, parent company of Psyonix, went out of their way to fully support on Linux and MacOS), all the way to adding in Easy Anti-Cheat (which the game doesn't really need, as in-game actions are stored server-side, not client-side. Also Linux and MacOS have native versions of EAC anyway). Psyonix's solution for Linux owners is to use Proton, while MacOS users can try a bootcamp setup, though they point out that neither is officially supported.
  • Video game cover band Kirby's Dream Band is responsible for the music that plays when goals are scored in the Tokyo arena because some of the band members work(ed) at Psyonix. It's the band's only wholly original composition, "Shibuya Shift."
