Trivia / Robin and the 7 Hoods

Go To

  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Originally, one of the subplots for the movie was supposed to be a kidnapping. However, Frank Sinatra requested that thread be removed after the real-life kidnapping for ransom of his son, Frank Sinatra, Jr.
  • Troubled Production: Victor Buono remarked that between the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which severely depressed the mood of Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and the kidnapping of Frank's son halfway through production (forcing Frank to demand the scrapping of a kidnapping subplot as in Real Life Writes the Plot) and the subsequent media circus it caused, it was a minor miracle that the movie ever made it to completion. In fact after JFK was killed, Frank had second thoughts about carrying on with the movie at all.
  • What Could Have Been: Robin And The Seven Hoods stars the Rat Pack central troika of Frank, Dean, and Sammy. Peter Lawford, another longtime Pack member, was meant to be in it too, but was replaced by Bing Crosby due to his falling-out with Frank after the Kennedys chose to distance themselves from the Sinatra owing to Sinatra's alleged mob ties, Sinatra blaming Lawford for not interceding on his behalf (Lawford being married to the president's sister). The swap for Crosby is a little odd given it was Crosby's house that Kennedy stayed at on a visit to the west coast after declining Sinatra's hospitality.
