Trivia / Ristar

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The game received incredibly favorable reviews at the time, however, due to numerous reasons, the game did rather poorly in sales and is a Stillborn Franchise.
  • No Export for You: Very downplayed. The first half of Planet Terra (Fanturn) is not accessible outside of the Japanese Game Gear version, making the second level much shorter than most others.
  • Stillborn Franchise: According to an interview with Akira Nishino, Sonic Team considered making a sequel to Ristar, and it even got as far as the character design stage, but it was canned for various reasons.
  • What Could Have Been: Ristar went through a lot of designs during development when Sega settled on the "Shooting Star" character. Most of them can be seen here.
  • Working Title: In magazine advertisements, the character, and the game, were named Feel the Rabbit at one point, but earlier beta versions of the game show it would have been called Volt the Voltage, Remnants of this idea still exist with Ristar's lightning volt shoe design. Various prototypes also show that Ristar was intended to be localized as Dexstar.
