Trivia / Return to Never Land

• Acting for Two: Harriet Owen voices Jane Darling as well as Wendy's younger self.
• B-Team Sequel: Though the first film was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, this film was produced by Disney Television Animation.
• Fake Brit:
  • Kath Soucie as Wendy.
  • Corey Burton as Captain Hook.
• Kids' Meal Toy: McDonald's had different Happy Meal toys depending on the region;
  • The US featured a set of six pieces of the Jolly Roger, each one featuring one of the film's characters; Mr. Smee, the Octopus, Cubby, Jane, Peter Pan, and Captain Hook.
  • Europe featured a different set of eight toys; Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Jane, Mr. Smee, Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, the Octopus, and the Jolly Roger.
• The Other Darrin:
  • Due to the Sequel Gap of almost 50 years, everyone was inevitably recast. It's especially evident with the Lost Boys; no one except Slightly sounds anything like they did in the original film.
  • By extension, Jeff Bennett replaces Corey Burton (who had initially taken over as the official voice in 1983) as Mr. Smee and would become his official voice from this point onward (though Burton would occasionally return for a couple theme park attractions until 2011).
  • In French, Philippe Catoire replaced the late Jean-Henri Chambois (1907-1997) as Captain Hook.
  • In the Japanese dub, Captain Hook is voiced by Naoya Uchida rather than Chikao Ohtsuka who did his voice in the original movie's theatrical 1984 dub. Also, Peter Pan is voiced by Yū Hayashi instead of Mitsuo ​Iwata.
  • While the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish dubs sees Captain Hook's voice actors from the original film's 1990s Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish redubs reprising the same role, Peter Pan on the other hand is voiced by different actors, though Anders Öjebo, his voice actor from the original film's Swedish 1992 dub, returned to voice someone else.
  • Similarly, the Brazilian Portuguese dub has Daniel de Ávila as Peter, but brings back Lauro Fabiano, Peter's original voice actor, as the narrator. Hook is recast with Newton da Matta, but Orlando Drummond returns to reprise the role of Smee.
• The Other Marty: Kathryn Beaumont, who voiced Wendy in Peter Pan, has claimed that Disney originally hired her to voice adult Wendy in Return to Never Land. However, after they rewrote Return to Never Land, they had Kath Soucie voice adult Wendy, as opposed to asking Beaumont to record new dialogue.
• Promoted Fanboy: Corey Burton had been a big fan and student of Hans Conried (the original Hook).
• Sequel Gap: 49 years after the original Peter Pan movie.
• Serendipity Writes the Plot: Due to the growing backlash over the racist portrayal in the first film, the Indian tribe doesn't appear here. They still appear in the video game.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The film's original Working Title was Peter and Jane.
  • As mentioned above, Kathryn Beaumont was initially brought back to voice Wendy again, but was ultimately replaced with Kath Soucie. Had she been mantained in the role, Beaumont would have been the only star of the original film to reprise her role in the sequel.
  • An abandoned subplot had Tinker Bell receive the poison cake that the pirates attempted feeding the Lost Boys in JM Barrie's Peter Pan. The writers deemed this irrelevant to Jane's arc, and instead had Tink almost killed by Jane's declaration that she doesn't believe in fairies.
  • Corey Burton was going to voice Smee as well (as he had been the primary voice for him since 1983), but midway through production Jeff Bennett took over so he could focus on voicing Captain Hook.
  • Early toys based on the film featured Jane wearing just her lavender nightgown on Never Land while in the finished film she wears a purple sweater over it. This possibly suggests that the decision to have Jane wearing her sweater over her nightgown came very late in production.
  • Captain Hook and his crew would have had an entire musical number in the third act, "I'll Give You One Guess", in which they celebrate their capture of Peter and express their excitement to continue regular piracy.
  • For the Latin American dub, Noé Velázquez auditioned for the role of Peter Pan. However, he was turned down due to the maturity of his voice, so Héctor Emmanuel Gómez was cast instead.
