Trivia / Return of the Living Dead

Go To

  • Sequel Gap: Return of the Living Dead came out in 1985, followed by Return of the Living Dead II in 1988 and Return of the Living Dead Part III in 1993. The series then went dormant for 12 years before Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave both aired on the Syfy channel.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Concerning the sequels, Don Calfa auditioned for the role of Doc Mandel in the sequel (the part ultimately went to Philip Bruns) and was set to play Colonel Peck in III, but had to pull out of production due to personal reasons.
    • Calfa also penned an outline for a proposed sequel entitled The Revenge of the Living Dead. The proposal revolved around Ernie, Casey, Chuck, Tina and Spider (Burt would have been hit with Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome) dealing with increased zombie hordes in order to escape to freedom. Along the way, they would have figured out how to use Ernie's embalming techniques to control the zombified Freddy.
    • John Russo, screenwriter of the Night of the Living Dead, originally pitched the film to Tobe Hooper but Hooper opted to make Lifeforce instead.
