- California Doubling: Although set in the state of Kentucky, the film was shot in and around Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
- Dueling Movies: The film came out the exact same year as Herbie: Fully Loaded. Both films' plots are almost exactly the same, albeit one with horses and a zebra and the other with cars.
- Never Work with Children or Animals: Hayden Panettiere had stated that she was thrown off the zebra and placed in the hospital with a concussion, whiplash, and two damaged vertebrae.
- On-Set Injury: While riding one of the zebras, Hayden Panettiere was thrown off and ended up hospitalized with a concussion, whiplash and damaged vertebrae. She was forbidden from discussing it publicly during the film's production and release (presumably to avoid bad publicity), although she eventually revealed the accident on The Graham Norton Show in 2013, eight years after the film's release (Panettiere joked that a lawsuit would be unlikely at this stage).
- Those Two Actors:
- Frankie Muniz and Hayden Panettiere were both co-stars on Malcolm in the Middle.
- David Spade and Wendie Malick were both in The Emperor's New Groove.
- This is David Spade and Whoopi Goldberg’s second collaboration after The Rugrats Movie.
