Trivia / Public Enemy

Go To

  • Artist Disillusionment: In "Rebel Without A Pause" (from Nation of Millions), Chuck D rapped, "Tables turn, suckers burn to learn, they can't disable the power of my label/Def Jam, tells you who I am." In the grand tradition of rapper-hates-his-record-company, Public Enemy and Def Jam officially cut ties in early 1999.
  • Chart Displacement: "Give It Up" may have been their only Top 40 hit, but it isn't nearly as known as "Bring the Noise" or "Fight the Power".
  • Corpsing: The outro to "Can't Do Nuttin For Ya Man" has Flav doing this while spitting some silly disses.
  • One-Hit Wonder: By the definition (only one entry in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100) in the US, with their now-mostly forgotten 1994 single "Give It Up", which made it to #33.
  • Similarly Named Works: There have been three bands called Public Enemy in different subgenres of Hardcore Punk - including a white power band that took on the name as a deliberate Take That! aimed at the hip-hop one.
