- California Doubling: The movie popularized the use of Canada for portraying USA in film.
- Creator Backlash:
- John Frankenheimer battled alcoholism throughout the shoot and later blamed himself for the film's worst elements (including the decision to make the Kahtadin a mutant bear instead of the chimera-monster implied in the script). While it performed decently at the box office, Prophecy was slaughtered by critics and became a minor Creator Killer for Frankenheimer, relegating him to paycheck films and direct to video work through the '80s and '90s.
- On the other hand, Talia Shire and Armand Assante have spoken more positively about Prophecy. Assante has said that he appreciated the opportunity to work with John Frankenheimer, whom he considers "one of the great directors," and that he liked the story although he thought the bear effects were cheesy. Shire comments that while her feelings on the film are mixed, she does feel its ecological message was ahead of its time, and is glad that the film has acquired a cult following over the years.
- The Danza: Robert Foxworth as Dr. Robert Verne.
- Fake Nationality: Plenty of the Native Americans are played by US or Canadian actors.
- Follow the Leader: A horror story about an unlikely killer creature set in Maine. Hmm... Stephen King is actually on record as liking this movie, though.
- Similarly Named Works: With the religious horror film The Prophecy.
