Trivia / Project Brutality

  • Dummied Out: Multiple cases of this in the mod. Some examples:
    • Before PB 3.0, The Heavy Machine Gun could originally switch between a 100-round magazine or a belt-feed mode and could switch between standard anti-personnel ammo and armour-penetrating full metal jacket rounds. The weapon had been reworked several times throughout 3.0's development, with sprite changes, the belt-feed mode removed, and anti-personal ammo replaced with a nailgun mode until the weapon was entirely scrapped and replaced with a nailgun straight from Quake due to being redundant with the minigun.
    • There used to be 2 grenade launchers in the arsenal, an M79 heavy grenade launcher similar to the one in Brutal Doom and a Super Grenade Launcher with a 6-drum magazine and the ability to choose between several grenade types. However as of 3.0, the former has been replaced with the drill charge-launching Excavator as the Super Grenade Launcher has made the heavy grenade launcher redundant.
    • As of the April 2020 build of 3.0, the swarmer (a bunch of seeker drones that automatically seek and devour the enemies) and electropod items were removed as they were found to be redundant and overpowered to the overall gameplay.
    • At the time of writing (March 2021) the Sentry Gun and the Beacon have both been disabled as well.
    • The Dragon's Breath shells for the shotgun, while still present in the game and fully functional if spawned with a console command, are not currently available as a normal upgrade. This might be because the Doom/GZDoom engine's funky fire mechanics make them extremely overpowered - a mag dump or two will kill a Cyberdemon. If you also have the magazine upgrade for the shotgun and have the red power rune effect which negates recoil, your lowly pump-action is now about as effective as the BFG.
      • The Dragon's Breath shells are now available as a normal upgrade and also have been severely downgraded due to their overpowered nature.
    • Among the enemies that have been removed from the latest 3.0 builds are the Trites, the Trite Elementals, the Pyro Sergeants, the Rifle Commandos, and the minigun variant of the Zombiemen.
    • Demon Morph Runes have been removed as of the November 2021 build.
    • The Mancubus Flame Cannon has been replaced by an actual flamethrower as of the October 2022 build. The Unmaker upgrade is a separate weapon, however.
      • The BFG 11K has been removed, and the Excavator and Pulse Cannon are disabled in that build. Legacy holdovers such as taunts, the smart scavenger system, and dodge rolling have also been removed, although the latter has been replaced by a dash system ala Doom Eternal.
