Trivia / Postal: Brain Damaged

  • Author's Saving Throw: When the demo was released on Steam Next Fext 2021, the biggest sticking point of "Straight Outta Suburbia", the very first level, was the largely identical interiors of almost every house in the level, which many felt made the already large level too cumbersome to explore. In the final game, many of these houses were boarded or locked up to prevent the player from exploring largely unnecessary areas, and some of the houses that remained were given distinct hallmarks (one house has a lot of toilets and toilet paper, another house has a lot of cats, while yet another has dead Sims in it) to make them easier to recognize.
  • Foiler Footage: The Steam Next Fest demo for the game notably does not include the Dude's doppelganger, who is established to exist in the game as early as the opening level of the full game.
  • Role Reprise: Corey Cruise, who portrayed the Dude in Postal III, returned to play the role for this game. Rick Hunter also returns, playing the Other Dude that the Dude chases throughout the game.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Early synopses for the game, such as the announcement trailer (which features pre-alpha footage), while still mentioning the dream premise, put more emphasis on the asylum, which are only prominent in the first two levels of the second episode, and seems to openly cast doubt on whether or not Dude is dreaming. The Dude also has his signature longcoat and alien shirt, a design trait largely only reserved for the Dude while he's awake in cutscenes, as well as the doppelganger in his dreams wearing the coat in the final game, which trades it out for a Krotchy themed hospital gown. There is also use of a more traditional double barrel shotgun and M16, where were replaced by more unique weapons. There is also a giant grey alien who has the Postal Dude's face on his torso, which does not show up in the game proper (though aliens do appear as enemies in the second episode).
    • From a comment made by Jake Parr on Civvie 11's Postal: Brain Damaged video. When he used to work at Hyperstrange he suggested a rewriting the final line to tie in with POSTAL: Special Delivery. It was initially accepted but it didn't make the final cut.
    • A review by GManLives, which likely features a review copy sent out by Hyperstrange, shows that the boss of Episode 2 was called "COVID". In the final game itself, it's called "the Big Bad RONA", and while Episode 2 deals with the pains of the pandemic, as a whole it largely avoids directly naming the virus.
