- Acclaimed Flop: It was a critical hit and won nine Genie Awards, but only made $1.7 million on a $6 million budget.
- Approval of God: The film was screened for the family members of the victims of the real-life tragedy before being released theatrically. The film was released with their blessing.
- California Doubling: Cégep de Maisonneuve and Collège Ahuntsic stood in for École Polytechnique. The real college actually gave permission to film there, but Villeneuve chose not to in order to remain respectful.
