Trivia / Pocoyo

  • Adored by the Network: Cartoon Network loved showing previews of this show to promote Cartoonito in the summer of 2021, to the point where they were willing to sacrifice reruns of their most popular shows to air it.
  • Channel Hop: In the US, the show started airing via public TV stations through American Public Television in 2010 as a segment airing straight after Peep and the Big Wide World, this was the franchise's first exposure into the US. Later that year, it moved to Nick Jr. airing concurrently with the public stations until 2015. Nick later held on to the rights by moving them onto Noggin starting with the Pocoyo World / Planet episodes. In 2021, the show later moved to Cartoon Network as part of its Cartoonito block but it was screwed over when Warner Bros. Discovery was formed.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Almost all of Pocoyo's voice actors are female.
  • Fake Brit: In Let's Go Pocoyo and the 2016 reboot, new narrator Stephen Hughes is in fact an American doing a convincing British accent, as proven by certain brief cases of Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping.
  • The Other Darrin: Very noticeable in the Castilian Spanish dub with Pocoyo, even though he only ever speaks a few words. His new voice actress in the 2016 reboot makes him sound very high-pitched and girlish as opposed to the original series, where he sounded more like an actual male toddler.
  • Referenced by...: In the Jelly Jamm episode "Great Student", Mina is giving Rita a lecture on how complex science is and ends her speech by stating she saw a duck in a green hat and a pink elephant wearing a tutu - referencing Pocoyo characters Pato and Elly respectively - to see if Rita was paying attention. She wasn't.note
  • Same Language Dub: Pocoyo was dubbed in both Castilian and Latin American Spanish.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, Pocoyo was supposed to be nonverbal and suck on a pacifier at all times. This was dropped because of cultural differences, but it is referenced in a small handful of season 1 episodesnote  that open with Pocoyo briefly sucking on the pacifier.
    • Elly’s pilot design had tusks, claws, and a tail. These were removed to make her softer and more feminine.
    • Loula was going to be a green dog named Lucas (after co-creator Guillermo Garcia’s dog), but this was changed to add more female characters.
    • Pato’s original name was “Duckie”.
    • At some point a clown was created as a secondary character. He was cut entirely because he couldn’t fit in with the rest of the cast.
    • A hockey helmet was designed for Pocoyo to wear in “Swept Away”, but went unused to not confuse the younger audience.
    • Before Pato was given a skateboard, he would have had a red turbocopter.
    • One episode, “The See-Saw”, remains unaired.
  • Word of God: According to the show's official Instagram account, Pocoyo has an afro under his hat.
