Trivia / Pibby

Go To

  • Children Voicing Children: BunBun is a child rabbit voiced by the 13 (at the time of production) year-old Jack Stanton.
  • Content Leak:
    • On April 5, 2020, an actor who auditioned for both BunBun and Alloy Boy had uploaded their given test lines to SoundCloud, before anyone could possibly even suspect that Pibby would become a thing. In the thumbnails of these audios included pictures from the pitch bible, which itself was leaked fully on 4chan shortly after the trailer was released.
    • The full storyboard of the pilot was leaked on March 22, 2023 by a twitter user named iDuckFilms.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Alex Newell, a gender-nonconforming person, voices the villainess Melira.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: During the April Fools takeover, Adult Swim posted clips of the event on Twitter as they happened during broadcast. The clip for Smiling Friends had the Darkness invade the series during DJ Spit's "Get out of me head" scene in "Frowning Friends", but the actual broadcast had it instead occur during "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back".
  • Referenced by...: The SiIvaGunner rip "Your Best Friend (True Pacifist Version) - Undertale" has its melody changed to Learning with Pibby's theme song, before abruptly glitching out and playing a slower, distorted version of the melody.
  • Role Reprise: Jeff Bergman (erroneously credited as "Jeff Berman" in the trailer) reprises his role as Fred Flintstone.
  • Sleeper Hit:
    • The trailer alone for the show became an instant hit and amassed 9 million views not even a month after being uploaded on YouTube.
    • Like the trailer, the live April Fools' broadcast on [adult swim] became an instant hit from Pibby fans both old and new, as well as other people.
  • Stillborn Franchise: [adult swim] had big plans for Pibby, including the characters' involvement in their 2022 April Fools' Day prank, a billboard and cross-promotion with Max. Despite all the attention the short got, it didn't really amount to anything, and in the end creator Dodge Greenley confirmed that Pibby wasn't greenlit for a full series.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The pitch bible displays some early designs for BunBun, Alloy Boy (then referred to as "Beta-Kid"), and Melira: BunBun is relatively the same but has a pink heart on his chest, Alloy Boy is shorter and his costume is green instead of blue, and Melira is more cartoonish, compared to the anthropomorphic look of her final design.
    • Rick from Rick and Morty was shown to be among the corrupted in the scene with Fred Flintstone in the short, as according to behind-the-scenes material posted by a crew member. This was removed in the final result, likely to avoid using any [adult swim] characters. He, along with Morty, were later shown in the April Fools' Day event.
    • The leaked storyboards from March 2023 featured He-Man, Vegeta, and Sailor Moon among the corrupted; they were all removed in the final trailer, due to them not being owned by Warner Bros., but rather Mattel and Toei Animation, respectively.
    • Earlier concepts of corrupted characters show multiple different iterations of how the corruption was supposed to work, going from the characters receiving a simple Evil Makeover to more monstrous and distorted designs closer to the final trailer. Notably, most designs are missing the glitch effects effects present in the trailer and April Fools' Day event.
  • Working Title: After the trailer was released, older titles were discovered via Cartoon Network trademarks, those being Pibby: Apocalypse and Learning with Pibby: Apocalypse.
