Paul McCartney-related trivia.

  • Acting for Two: The Music Video for "Coming Up" has Paul playing all nine members of his backup band; Linda plays two backup singers.
  • Breakthrough Hit: Either "Another Day" or "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", both from Ram. Although "Another Day" was a top 5 hit in the spring of 1971, "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" — and not just because it was his first solo No. 1 — is far better known.
  • Channel Hop: Between Ram and McCartney II, McCartney moved off of Apple Records and established a new imprint, MPL, which partnered with Parlophone Records in the UK and Columbia Records in North America after he called time with Wings (under whom his contract with Columbia began). This arrangement lasted until 1985, after which McCartney moved over to Capitol Records west of the Atlantic (consequently turning Columbia's CD releases of his material, which were only on shelves for a year, into popular collector's items). In 2007, MPL cut a new deal with Hear Music worldwide before moving back to Capitol in the late 2010s.
  • Creator Backlash: While he doesn't think it's a bad song, Paul's admitted that he finds it a bit embarrassing to still be singing "Hi, Hi, Hi" (which absolutely is about doing drugs and partying) at his age, so he often tries to spin it as about being "high on life".
  • Denied Parody: "Let me Roll It" sounds like John Lennon, but Paul says it's just a coincidence.
  • He Also Did: Had a periodic songwriting partnership with Elvis Costello in the late '80s and early '90s, with songs appearing on both men's albums. The Costello-McCartney song "Veronica", which also features Paul on bass, became one of the biggest hits of Elvis Costello's career.
  • Sequel Gap: For his Self Titled Albums. McCartney II came ten years after McCartney, and McCartney III came forty years after its predecessor.
  • So My Kids Can Watch: His children convinced him to perform at Live Aid.
  • What Could Have Been: He courted the legendary Nelson Riddle to arrange one of his songs, but Riddle turned him down, partly because Riddle didn't really care for rock in general, and partly because Riddle didn't like the idea of just arranging one song on someone's album, feeling that the Mood Whiplash of going from a Riddle-arranged song to something else shattered the impact of the arrangement in first place.
  • Write Who You Know: Among the persons "knocking at the door" in "Let 'Em In" are "Sister Suzy" (a nickname for Linda), "Brother John" (Linda's brother), "Brother Michael" (Paul's brother) and "Auntie Gin" (Paul's aunt).
