- Dawson Casting: Nobody in this movie (except maybe Katy and Tom) passes for college-aged (and Tom is only visiting the campus to see if he wants to go; he's technically still in high school). Justified in that half the campus are career students going well into their 20s. Jeremy Piven's character is at least said to be in his seventh year of college.
- Vindicated by Cable: Not a huge hit when released - the ad campaign was forgettable - the movie picked up a following thanks to repeated airings on Comedy Central and some of the cast - Piven and Spade especially - becoming known actors.
