  • The Character Died with Him: Buster Merryfield died in 1999; in this episode, which was broadcast two years later, it is mentioned that Uncle Albert moved away from Peckham; subsequently, the Trotters receive a call to say that he has died, and go to his funeral. Well, they try to...
    • Averted in the case of Mike, the landlord of the Nag's Head; Kenneth MacDonald died in August 2001 (four months before this episode was broadcast) but his character was not killed off — he was instead said to have been sent to prison for embezzlement after being caught up in one of Del's shady financial dealings.
  • What Could Have Been: Del was originally going to appear on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, but ITV did not grant the rights for it to be used on repeat runs of the episode, so instead a fictional quiz show was created. The fact that the plot hinges on an answer to a question being said by the show's host to be wrong when it was actually the right answer may help to explain ITV's reluctance to get involved, as Millionaire was one of their best-performing shows at the time.
  • Write What You Know: When John Sullivan was asked by The BBC to write three more episodes, he decided not to explore the Trotters' lives as rich jet-setters — instead having them lose their money and go back to living in Nelson Mandela House because he didn't think the former would be particularly funny, and he felt more comfortable in writing the Trotters as a poor family trying to get rich.
