Trivia / Onechanbara

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Kagura and Saaya are not Romanians. They come from there, yes, and their later ex-headquarters were there, but Romanians they are not. Some gaming news outlets decide "eh, close enough" anyway.
  • Dueling Games:
    • Of the inadvertent variety. On top of being niche as all heck, Onechanbara Z's initial Xbox 360 release pits it up against the more known Lollipop Chainsaw. Now, only the most hardcore of fans know this game exists.
    • The PC port of Z2 Chaos with the PC port of Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, both being fanservicy, Dynasty Warriors-esque action games. That said, it's more a friendly rivalry since both are made by the same company.
  • No Export for You: The series is infamous for its extremely inconsistent localization: of the nearly dozen titles in the franchise, only three of them have seen a U.S. release, those being Bikini Zombie Slayers on the Wii, Bikini Samurai Squad for the Xbox 360, and Z2: Chaos for the PS4 and Windows. This makes it difficult for dedicated fans to get their hands on all the games that weren't localized; since the PS2 and Xbox 360 are both region-locked, gamers who play on those consoles will not be able to play the original 2 games or Z: Kagura respectively unless they want to spend an unnecessarily high amount of money for an import system. The PS3 port of Z: Kagura and the PSP game Special, however, are both playable, as the PSP and PS3 are not region-locked. Downplayed with Origin, which will receive a worldwide release, but only digitally as far as we know.
  • The Other Darrin: Origin sees Nicole Balick (Aya) and Cherami Leigh (Saki) replaced by Suzie Yeung and Cristina Valenzuela, respectively; this is likely due to D3 Publisher taking the localization in-house.
  • Playing Against Type: In Origin: Brianna Knickerbocker, usually known for playing Nice Girl and Shrinking Violet characters, voices Femme Fatale Action Girl turned Dark Action Girl Rei.
  • Sleeper Hit: Out of all the dozens upon dozens of Simple Series games that D3Publisher cranks out, Onechanbara is one of the few that really became popular, warranting not only sequels, but also movie adaptations. Not bad for a budget game.
