Trivia / Oggy and the Cockroaches

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: Cartoon Network Asia Pacific really adored this show. Nickelodeon in America also hedged its bets that it would be a hit with viewers as well, but following the controversy of airing "(Un)Happy Camper" uncensored, the adoration didn't last long and now Nickelodeon is pretending they never aired the show.
    • Malaysia really loves this show as well, to the point where they managed to convince the other two of the big three networks (Disney Channel SE Asia and even Nickelodeon SE Asia) to also carry it alongside CN Asia Pacific.
    • When Italian network K2 picked up the series in 2013 to air its fourth season, they went all out: the show got frequent marathons and had a lot of airtime divided with The Daltons and Total Drama Island, and while these shows would eventually get banished to the night hours or removed from the schedule shortly after their run ended respectively, Oggy would instead countinue to reign supreme, even going as far as to premiere the sixth season before any other country. This died down when ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks came to the network.
    • When French cartoon channel Gulli launched, it gave Oggy two airings (unlike other shows, which only got one). As if that wasn't enough for them, Oggy would reign supreme for 4 years, be given tons of promotion, aire twice on most blocks, and every Saturday night from 2005 to 2008 would have some kind of Oggy thing airing. This died down in 2009, after Canal+ got the rights for the first two seasons from Gulli. But the adoration came back on 30 June 2017, where they premiered 6 season 5 episodes back-to-back.
  • Author's Saving Throw: Many fans are weren't thrilled with remasterings of selected season 1 and 2 episodes, which are referred to as "season 6" and "season 7". Xilam likely noticed this, and to save face, when they released the remastered season 3, they properly advertised it as just "season 3". All the music and sound effects in all the season's episodes are retained (this is to address complaints about the sound effects and music in season 6 and 7). Notwithstanding obligatory cameos of Olivia and censorship of firearms, the remastered season 3 episodes are almost identical to the unaltered ones.
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: Being their most successful franchise, Xilam is clearly milking Oggy and the Cockroaches dry; it has a CD drama, the most episodes and seasons out of any of their shows, a magazine series, several comics, a Spin-Off, some live shows, and a reboot.
  • Channel Hop: The show originally started on France 3 when it was later hopped to Canal+ Family after it was Un-Canceled and then later to Gulli.
  • Completely Different Title: The Italian airings give several examples. For instance, the series originally was called Maledetti Scarafagginote  instead of Oggy and the Cockroaches.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: When this show is on a TV information website, there's bound to be a chance where it will list voice actors from Los Angeles and three Canadian cities (Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto). Likewise, Netflix made the same mistake but only Don Michael Paul, Tony Sampson and Sam Vincent were mentioned. All of the characters were voiced by the show's composer, Hugues Le Bars.
  • Crossdressing Voices: All the voices, including the voices of female characters (e.g. Monica and some extras), were provided by the show's composer (Hugues Le Bars). To make this work, the sound team made large use of pitch-shifting and filters.
  • Defictionalization: This was a Show Within a Show that was seen in the Space Goofs episode "Venus Junior".
  • Died During Production:
    • The show's creator, Jean-Yves Raimbaud, died of lung cancer before the first episode was even finished.
    • Olivier Jean-Marie, the director of the series, passed away in May 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
  • Prop Recycling:
    • The producers recycled a handful of episodes' title cards (in French) into In-Universe billboards and shop signs in remakes of Season 1 and 2 episodes.
    • Also, several less-Gonky human models from Season 4-5 can also be seen as well, but they're too small that viewers need to take a closer look.
  • Recycled Script:
    • The episodes "Mission Oggy" and "Caught in a Trap" both involve Oggy putting a bunch of high security traps in the kitchen to keep the cockroaches away from the fridge, and in both episodes feature the cockroaches falling for a trap that was inside the fridge, rather than the outside.
    • The episodes "Steamed Out" and "Lights Out" both involve the cockroaches trying to blind Oggy, Jack and Bob. The only difference is that in "Steamed Out", they try to blind them with steam, while in "Lights Out", they try to blind them by turning off all of the lights.
    • The episodes "It's Been a Hard Day's Noise" and "Cat Kit" feature the Cockroaches creating loud noises to annoy/distract the main characters.
  • Screwed by the Network: After the whole "(Un)Happy Camper" incident, Nickelodeon ended up pushing the show to Nicktoons, before being dropped altogether in America.
