- Acclaimed Flop: Despite having great critic reviews, having Thomas Dolby write the soundtrack, and managing to stand out less than a year before Riven's release, Obsidian ended up selling very poorly, to the point that Rocket Science went bankrupt and closed its doors not long after its production.
- Dada Ad: The game's TV ad certainly qualifies.
- Musical Nod: The Piazza theme is a remix of Brutus' Leitmotif from Double Switch, also scored by Thomas Dolby.
- Suspiciously Similar Song: The first few notes of the game's theme can be easily confused with Lugia's Song from Pokémon 2000.
- Technology Marches On: When you're watching the sendoff party video, look closely at the phone Lilah & Max's boss is holding.
- In the chemistry lab puzzle, there's a TV-like device with two items next to it that look like floppy disks.
- What Could Have Been
- One sketch of the Bureau realm shows the Chief in a much different design, and smoking a cigarette that, according to the hint book, would have been used in the same fashion as his glasses that pass through the screen in-game.
- Early sketches in the hint book and in the Statue show that the Ornithopter was originally meant to be seen in 3rd-person view, and previous designs made a more fish-like view.
- The developers tried to make the robot angels more majestic and detailed, as seen from a sketch in the hint book, but due to the limited technology of the time, this didn't happen.
