• What Could Have Been:
  • When Coeur was planning the story out, it was originally going to be a lot shorter; he estimated roughly 35 chapters. When it came to executing it, however, he realized that he had bundled story arcs together without realizing how long they'd actually be (he specifically mentioned Ruby's kidnapping, which took eight chapters to resolve), so he had to extend the schedule and push back his next planned work. This turned out to be rather fortuitous, because the timing of Null's final chapter allowed him to plan out his next work in the first week of the new year.
  • The material that comprised the final chapter was originally going to be covered in two, with one covering the final duel between Jaune and Ironwood and the other being the epilogue. However, knowing that readers wouldn’t react well to Jaune's apparent death at the end of the fight, he chose to compact and combine both events into one chapter.
