Trivia / NightFire

Go To

  • Dummied Out: Despite EA's policy on unused content since a certain game being pulled off shelves for hidden content, this game still has plenty of unused stuff.
    • The PS2 version has four dev maps consisting of character maps that showcase almost all the in-game models (some used for FMVs) and various testing rooms.
    • The Torpedo Launcher, Q-Pen, and Flare Gun can still be accessed in some maps but not without hacks.
    • Despite having no maps to load, the first three sections of Equinox seem to have leftover behavior for Bond starting with armor that can be seen when loading their map IDs into a preexisting map.
  • Early Draft Tie-In: The PC and GBA versions are based off earlier versions of NightFire for the consoles. Some levels or events cut from the console game ended up here such as The Exchange's red gallery, Phoenix Fire having a garage section (which is still in trailers for the console game), a tailing Kiko segment from Countdown, and a brief run through in the Space Defense Platform from Equinox.
  • Executive Meddling: According to Randy Pitchford, Barbara Broccoli attempted to tone down the violence and get rid of the x-ray glasses' ability to see women's underwear in Gearbox's rendition of the game. For Eurocom, MGM is considered responsible for the returning multiplayer character limitations from the N64 The World Is Not Enough.
  • Orphaned Reference: During the briefing for Deep Descent, M compliments Bond's performance in Drake's training facility which is something he only does in the PC and GBA versions as the console version skips over it.
  • The Other Darrin: Pierce Brosnan doesn't voice Bond here. Maxwell Caulfield (previously known for Grease 2) does.
  • Tyop on the Cover: The manual for the PAL PlayStation 2 release has the title misspelt as "NightfFire" on one page.
  • What Could Have Been: Eurocom originally conceived a game based on You Only Live Twice, mostly in part to reduce the amount of driving segments in the game as the driving team were busy with Agent Under Fire at the time. But EA wanted a game based on Moonraker which resulted in the two compromising on a hodgepodge of elements from both and many other films.
    • The game originally featured Andrew Bicknell (in likeness only) playing James Bond again but EA were able to secure the rights to Pierce Brosnan's digital likeness and get him for a laser scan to get his face into the game.
    • Unused voice clips indicate some levels were truncated. Equinox has only one section but at one point it originally had four with the only surviving part being saved for last.
    • The console version had six levels left on the cutting room floor which were named Training, Hidden Agenda, Streets of Tokyo, Atoll Infiltration, Island Caves, and River Gauntlet. Hidden Agenda and Island Caves are still playable but only in the PC and GBA versions.
    • Two multiplayer maps were cut from the console game. Known as Space Station and Facility. Presumably based off the cut content of Equinox and Hidden Agenda.
    • The Frinesi Special A3, Munitions Belguique PDW90, claymores, FA1 Clarion, Mustang Viper, Torpedo Launcher, and the Q-Pen were once part of the console game. Most of them did survive to be used in the PC and GBA version. As mentioned above, two of these were Dummied Out instead of completely cut with the Torpedo Launcher being relegated to Drake's personal weapon in Equinox.
  • Working Title: James Bond 007, James Bond in... Phoenix Rising.
