Trivia / Nickelodeon GUTS

General trivia:

  • As many as 3 episodes were often shot in a day. An entire tape date was indicated by the shirt Mike was wearing, as well as the events used.
  • GUTS was the only Nickelodeon show to use Soundstage 21 of Universal Studios while Nickelodeon Studios (which consisted of Soundstages 18 and 19) operated in the Orlando theme park. Two other shows used the same stage before the park opened in 1990: Super Sloppy Double Dare and Think Fast.
  • My Family's Got Guts is, to date, the last Nickelodeon show to be filmed at Universal Studios in Florida. It was produced three years after Nickelodeon Studios closed its doors.

Specific trivia:

  • Creator Backlash: A former contestantnote  did a webcomic about his experiences on the show in its first season, and how it affected him afterwards. The results weren't pretty note , and haunted him for the rest of his life.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The 1993 All-Star Special never reran on Nick GAS, most likely because it was an hour long instead of the usual half-hour. (It was available on VHS for a time in the mid-90s, though. Rumor has it that it was rerun on Nick Ga S on their "Wild Card" block) Plus, the 1995 special "The Making of Global GUTS: The Road to the Extreme Arena" only aired on special days and was never released on VHS nor DVD. The series itself has yet to see a DVD release. A few episodes of Global Guts were available to buy on iTunes, but have since been removed.
    • At least one episode from the original series, Season 2's Angela Vs. Luke Vs. Natalie, is missing. It is not on any streaming services, nor was it rerun on Nick GaS. It was last rerun on October 25, 1998. It's unclear, as of right now, if there were any others of said original series. It's been suggested (but unconfirmed) that the reason the episode is missing is due to a black eye that Natalie (the purple player) got before the episode was taped in a Basketball accident.
    • Nickelodeon aired My Family's Got Guts only once, then never spoke of it again. Even worse, a second season filmed concurrently with the first never aired in America! Said second season did air in Australia, and even then no one seems to have recorded the second episode.
    • Rescued with the lauch of Paramount+, which includes all episodes of the show (Global GUTS is treated as a separate show rather than season 4 of it). My Family's got Guts is still missing entirely though.
  • Screwed by the Network: A second season of Global GUTS was planned but didn't make it into shooting because Nickelodeon wanted to try other things. Nickelodeon also screwed Legends of the Hidden Temple out of a fourth season the same way.
  • Un-Canceled: As My Family's Got Guts in 2008.
