• Adored by the Network: The show scored an early Season 2 renewal. Then, during Season 2, NBC announced that it would order three more full seasons of the show and begin looking into spinoff possibilities.
• Distanced from Current Events: The show's second season included an episode titled "Pandemic", but this was taken out of the schedule because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic at the time. Cassius Shin's introduction in that episode was integrated into "Matter of Seconds", the next episode on the schedule.
• Fake American: Janet Montgomery (Dr Bloom), Lisa O'Hare (Georgia Goodwin), and Kathryn Prescott (Vanessa Bloom) are all English actresses performing with American accents. Janet's natural voice can be heard here, Lisa's here, and Kathryn's here.
• Fake Nationality: Dr Leyla Shinwari is Pakistani, but her actress Shiva Kalaiselvan is actually from Malaysia.
• Hide Your Pregnancy: Janet Montgomery became pregnant between the filming of the pilot and second episode. Once she started showing, the show used classic techniques like having her wear loose clothing, filming her very close up, or filming her behind counters or other obstructions. She temporarily left the show (via Dr Bloom heading to rehab for her Adderall addiction) when it was time to have her baby.
• Playing Against Type: Tyler Labine moves away from the comic relief roles he's primarily known for.
• Schedule Slip: Season 3 started much later than usual because the show originally shot on location at Bellevue Hospital and Kings County Hospital but these became off limits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything had to be put on hold until the production could build sets from scratch.
• What Could Have Been: Dr. Kapoor was supposed to spend an episode sick with the flu. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the episode was scrapped and the footage of Kapoor being sick was repurposed to become the onset of a coronavirus storyline.
